Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that studies the morphology, physiology and pathology of the dental pulp (nerve) of the teeth and their roots.
The main procedure is root canal treatment: removing the tooth's nerve when it is dead, diseased or damaged. The remaining space is cleaned, reshaped and filled with a special healing material. The procedure ends with a proper seal of the canal.
The most common causes of nerve damage are tooth fractures, deep cavities and strong blows (recent or past). Years ago these teeth were extracted; today, with conservative dentistry techniques, they can be treated and saved.
A comfortable experience
Thanks to our specialists' excellent training and current sedation and anesthesia techniques, we can assure our patients a comfortable experience during treatment.
What to expect at your appointment
- We apply local anesthesia so the area is completely numb.
- A small opening is made in the tooth to remove the inflamed or infected tissue.
- The canal is thoroughly cleaned, filled and sealed.
- A temporary crown protects the tooth while it heals; at a later appointment it is replaced with the permanent one.
Most patients return to their normal activities right after the procedure.
Benefits
- Avoids extraction: in most cases the tooth can be saved.
- Keep your natural tooth: done properly and with good hygiene, it can last a lifetime.
- The pain goes away: removing the infected tissue ends the discomfort that makes eating and sleeping difficult.
“The excellent care I received from the specialists changed how I see root canals.”
